starting the artist's way
Another post on Bear so soon, look at me go!
I started The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron today, and I'm not sure what to expect. I hope for artistic development, confidence, and clarity on what I'm supposed to be creating with my one grand life.
Plenty of people report great results, but just as many "DNF" and dislike the religious and privileged references/takes.
I'm on the side of take what works for you and leave out the rest, so it doesn't bother me much (yet, at least).
The two listed tools in the opening section are morning pages (write 3 pages by hand daily) and artistic dates (weekly solo adventures to stimulate your creative self).
Morning pages are so similar to my typical journaling and even personal blogging practice, so I'm curious if this particular container will provide different results.
Last year, I did an unofficial daily blogging challenge and hit over 100 consecutive posts over my (many) personal blogs. I'm tempted to do morning pages by hand AND confessional pages on bear about how the work is going so far.
Even more curious, I'm considering documenting my traditional sketches and drawings on the blog to track how my art changes and evolves over the next 3 months. (The Artist's Way offers a 12 week class/exercises format)
It sounds like an awful lot of work, but at the same time, maybe it's exactly what I need to kickstart myself into accountability.
Certain challenges are daunting, but this is striking me as more delicious and fulfilling than dreadful and pointless.
Not a bad way to start April, me thinks.
Maybe I'll be here tomorrow? (And perhaps with a Bear pro plan so I can post images and stuffs).
Let me know what you think of The Artist's Way if you've done it / attempted it / or have a better recommendation instead.
Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,
Nadine ♥
