forced to heal when all i want to do is vibe
The terrifyingly powerful being from yesterday is slumbering today.
I settled into Dragon Pose at Yin Yoga class tonight and was met with silence.
No outrage, no bite, no anger. Soft, smooth, easy, breezy, beautiful Covergirl vibes.
It's wild how things can change from day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute.
Tonight's class brought awareness to new sensations. It's fascinating to learn something new about myself and my body whenever I arrive on the mat. Maybe I'll start a tag or separate blog to journal post-yoga reflections1.
~ Slowing down in a speedy world ~
As humans, we're often moving quickly, worried about how to meet all the demands of the day. We're executing, contemplating, eating, drinking, and pooping — all the necessary and unnecessary things we do as humans.
(No, I don't need that strawberry ice cream for dessert, but gosh darn it, I want it!)
Our body is the vehicle in which everything happens, so we're going through a lot of wear and tear every day.
How can we take care of ourselves to ensure the wear and tear doesn't lead to a complete breakdown or an unfortunate accident? There are many ways I'm exploring this, one is through my blogging and another is through my yoga practice.
Don't get me wrong, yoga is more than just physical asana practice. But as someone who is very sedentary, getting more movement in my day-to-day is of high importance.
When holding poses tonight, I sensed an invisible energy circulating my body. I envisioned my spirit team2, sending breath and healing energy into the pockets of tightness located in various areas of my body. The lower part of my back has been feeling particularly tight (those chained to their desk can relate), so back openers and spinal twists were like opening a pressure valve, releasing collected ickiness in that area, resulting in the oooooooh's and aaaaah's.
There is a very rewarding sensation when you finally let go and your muscles realign and relax — a newfound spaciousness, a feeling of ease3.
~ A pit stop for the soul ~
You know NASCAR pit stop repairs? Let's just say I arrived on my mat at full speed, needing extra self-care and attention, especially due to lack of sleep. My spirit team embodied the urgency of a pit stop team, swooping in and providing tender love and attention.
All I had to do was show up and receive.
Sometimes, it can be that easy. That's what I love about yoga. A reunion back to wholeness.
~ Practicing off the mat ~
I remind myself that it's just as important to be mindful and present with how I'm moving through life when off the mat.
For example: while typing this up, I'm correcting my posture, straightening my spine, keeping it long and tall. Maybe a 30 minute timer or every hour alarm would be a good addition to ensure I'm not shrinking my spine. (Consider this your posture check, too. No shrimping over there, okay?)
When I'm 'editing' my blog post and judging myself for how long-winded I tend to be, how can I cool my jets by emphasizing my breath's inhales and exhales?
The little ways in which we treat ourselves with kindness add up overtime.
They say it takes about 5 positive remarks to neutralize 1 negative remark.
I'll be spending the rest of my life treating myself with kindness and positivity to outweigh the negativity I've both received and given to myself.
Why did it have to be this way, forced to heal when all I want to do is vibe?
The answer is beyond me, but even without knowing why, I keep moving forward.
As fun as it is to meme, I still make sure to walk, walk, and walk some more, towards the path of self-compassion and self-love.
My priority isn't finding the answers to each question I propose throughout my posts, but rather in learning how to embrace myself. Fully and without reservation.
I sense that I'm well on my way towards that full embrace. I'm pretty proud of how far I've gotten so far thanks to this blog (and the growing community here) and I have no desire to stop.
Remember, no matter how wild and crazy it all gets: it's not over until it's over.
Godspeed to all on their healing and self-love journeys.
Thanks for being here.
Sincerely,
Nadine ♥
Tracking my moods and any breakthroughs in bodily tension — whether it be physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual release — could be beneficial for self-awareness and deeper understanding over time.↩
I refer to my spirit team as angels, ancestors, and spirit guides who love unconditionally and are willing to collaborate with me for personal and collective healing, growth, liberation and abundance for all peoples, but especially marginalized and colonized ones.↩
I highly recommend trying out a yoga class or even free videos on YouTube if you're even a little bit curious.↩
